Bitdefender is an excellent Mac antivirus program. It has a high percentage of malware detection, as well as other useful security features. However, it’s not without its weaknesses.
The default suite’s interface is simple to navigate and groups feature into three categories: Security, Privacy, and Utilities. The Protection tab focuses on the features you would expect from an antivirus suite, including real-time scanning, firewall monitoring, and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab offers suggestions on how to remain safe on the internet, including an encrypted web browser that runs websites within the sandbox, to prevent malware from infecting your standard browser. The Utilities tab also includes optimization tools and a file shredder that overwrites files using exclusive algorithms to render them unrecoverable even if they’ve been deleted.
Other features are also available on premium plans, such as a handy password manager and an Anti-Tracker solution which can block excessive tracking by a variety of websites. The program also has an vulnerability scan that can detect faulty apps or passwords that are weak, as well as Windows updates that haven’t been applied. It also provides a quick customized scan that takes five minutes to complete, which is faster than other competitors like Norton and TotalAV.
The only downside to the application is that it takes an incredibly long time to install which may be frustrating to users who want to start. In addition the application’s “Reveal in Finder” option isn’t working it seems like a strange omission for an antivirus app that competes against other antivirus solutions that can do exactly the same thing in only few clicks.
