Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Meetings

Meetings online have numerous advantages particularly in an increasingly virtual world. Meetings are time-saving for all those involved. Attendees can join the meeting without leaving their desks or grab food. They don’t need to print documents or connect to an AV system, or pack up. Participants can also mute themselves in case they need to rest or check their emails.

Online meetings are also more reliable. Maybe it’s because participants don’t have think about running to the bathroom or getting dressed to impress before calling in. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that they can choose from a wide range of locations which can meet their needs – from their homes or at a cafĂ©, to the beach.

Additionally, online meetings help companies save money. When a company holds a meeting in-person, it must cover the cost of the room and refreshments. This is not the case for online meetings.

However, there are some drawbacks to online meetings that aren’t to be ignored. For example, it can be hard to capture people’s attention during a meeting when they aren’t able to see each faces. This could result in people checking their emails or social media during meetings, which is not conducive to a productive session. Meetings online also don’t allow for the same level of communication as people can’t interpret body language or non-verbal signals in a meeting.
